Jinsung Bang

Profile

Jinsung Bang is a student with a wide range of extracurricular interests spanning music, athletics, writing, and wellness. He is particularly drawn to tea service, studying under a master artisan and approaching tea as a cultural practice rooted in craftsmanship, mindfulness, and place. His interest in ottchil grew from a lifelong closeness to nature; as he gathered fragments of the natural world he wished to preserve, he was drawn to lacquer as one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring ways to protect form, memory, and time. Through travels to rural villages, he creates ottchil works inspired by traditional tea culture and the landscapes he encounters. Alongside this, he pursues cello, basketball, and cross country with steady commitment, while using screenwriting to shape his experiences into narrative. Together, these pursuits reflect a curiosity-driven approach to learning and a balance between physical discipline, creative expression, and cultural exploration.
